Like many others of his generation, Dave Schaper was listening to the radio of the mid-sixties to early seventies. The music of The Beatles, Byrds and Beach Boys filled the airwaves. Growing up near Houston, Texas also meant exposure to country, Tex-Mex, blues…and the fine tradition of Texas troubadours.
Picking up the guitar in his early twenties, Dave picked up songs by Eagles, Jimmy Buffett and Dan Fogelberg as well as local music by Shake Russell, Rusty Wier and Willis Alan Ramsay.
A Colorado resident now for many years, Dave’s Texas roots still run deep, continuing to be inspired by the story telling of Lyle Lovett, Rodney Crowell, Guy Clark and many others.
Dave's songs have appeared on CDs by Bill Barwick, Reckless Abandon, and Colorado Bluegrass Music Society. He was a finalist in the Walnut Valley New Songs Showcase.
