"Work Less This Year"

by Webmaster

I've been sick and its taking a while to recover. I'm trying to keep up with the web updates, my performances, and all the other commitments in my life. I may be semi-retired, but I find I'm workng more than ever. I have my own business and work from home. It's wonderful that my commute to my office is a flight of stairs. But, there is one facit of working from home that I didn't expect: I have to leave the house to be away from work! Even music (playing, singing and listening) has become part of my work.

So now I look for ways to take vacations without leaving the house.

I came across an article from the January/Februay 2006 NASE "Self Employed" Magazine with the title, "Four Reasons You Should Work Less In 2006".

  1. You want to feel better.... By working less, you gain the time to exercise, eat leisurely meals, and otherwise take care of your health.
  2. You miss your creativity.... Fatigue, stress and anxiety stifle the creative spark, but innovation flourishes when the mind is rested.
  3. You need to connect with people yo love.... Do whatever it takes to get away from the buiness and make your loved ones top priority.
  4. You'd like to learn something new.... Any activity that pushed your limits or stimulates your brain ... is a worthy investment.

I'm looking forward to a return of creativity. I notice that when I don't feel well, when I'm too tired or too stressed, I'm not creative.

I get some of my best ideas in the morning when I first wake up—sometimes I get them in my dreams. I've dreamt the hook for a song I want to write. I've dreamt the words to a song I didn't write but want to learn. So, I think I'll go to bed and maybe when I wake up, I'll have a melodies for the two songs that have words and no tunes. And, after that, I'll finish writing the song that needs about 3.5 more lines.

Well, I can dream, can't I?
